We randomly divide those present into teams of three or four (depending on how many attend) and give each team a number of tree whips, a bag of soil and a tray. In the course of the evening they have to turn these into a bonsai forest then members vote for the winning forest. (Members do not vote for the forest that they worked on.)
The trees were purchased from a tree nursery European Larch.
